YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Most modern cars have so many security features they are almost impossible to steal, unless you have the keys. Burglars are now breaking into homes in Hertfordshire, and other parts of the country, during the night to steal your car keys and then driving away your pride and joy.
Some burglars are forcing open UPVC doors with screwdrivers, made all the easier if the door is not key locked from the inside. Others are going fishing through the letterbox with long canes with magnets or hooks attached to take your car keys off the hall table.
Those burglars who enter the home often strike lucky and find handbags and wallets with cash, credit cards and the occasional PIN number to go with the cards. They then drive your car away to add insult to injury.
Many of the stolen vehicles then undergo an identity change, known in the trade as 'ringing'. These are then sold on to unsuspecting members of the public. Remember that if you buy one of these 'rung' cars it can be seized by police when discovered and you will not receive any compensation. Other cars are simply stripped down and sold as spare parts. Either way most owners never see these car again.
In order to claim on your insurance for your stolen car you will have to report it to the police.
