Operation Tarantula
Hertfordshire Constabulary has launched a major initiative across East Herts to drive down the number of thefts from vehicles. Hertfordshire Crimestoppers is supporting this activity as it is a simple crime to prevent but can have a major impact on the victims, their families and even their employers.
Inspector Andy Piper, from Hertfordshire Constabulary, says "Hertfordshire is a low crime county but we are launching Operation Tarantula after a slight increase in theft from motor vehicles in East Herts. Theft from motor vehicles is preventable and motorists can prevent themselves from becoming a victim of this particular type of crime by following our steps. Operation Tarantula has been launched to raise awareness of how members of the public can do this. Car crime is committed by opportunists, we want the public to be aware of this and not leave anything on show in their car, don't give them the opportunity."
Harvey Pitchford, Vice Chair of Hertfordshire Crimestoppers, says "Hertfordshire Constabulary's Operation Tarantula is aimed at making people across East Herts aware of how a few simple steps can prevent vehicles being broken into. It is a simple fact that items that are stolen from cars by opportunists are either for their personal use or to be sold off quickly and cheaply. If you know about anybody who is bragging about "getting lucky" with some items from a car they walked passed or you know of people selling items that you suspect are stolen then you could help. Following Herts Constabulary's crime prevention advice and calling Crimestoppers about what you know, could stop you being the next victim. If you do not want to speak to the police, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 for free. We are not the police and we do not ask who your are."
