Crimestoppers appeal for information after Watford shooting

The independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers is appealing for information after a shooting in Watford on October 27. The shooting occurred at 12.53am in Hodges Way and left a 55-year-old man with gunshot wounds. He remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Police have been appealing for two people, believed to have been near the junction of Moor View Road and Vicarage Road when the shooting happened, to come forward as they may have seen at least two people running away. Their information could be crucial to the investigation.

A 32-year-old man, a 26-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, all from Watford, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder; a 34-year-old man, also from Watford, was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill. They have been police bailed pending further investigation.

Crimestoppers’ Eastern Regional Manager Ann Scott said: “If you have any information about who was involved or saw anything suspicious that morning, but do not want to speak to Police, then we urge you to contact Crimestoppers. You have nothing to fear by calling 0800 555 111 or using our ‘giving information’ form  to pass on information about crime anonymously. We do not ask for your name or any personal details. We also do not trace IP addresses/calls or record our calls. You will not have to give a statement to Police or go to court. In the 23 years that we have been running we have never revealed anyone’s identity”.

Senior Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Carl Foster, said: “A 55-year-old man has been left with devastating injuries following this attack and I would urge anyone who has information about this crime to please speak to Crimestoppers if you do not feel comfortable talking to police directly”.

He added: “Our investigation into this crime is currently on-going and I would like to re-iterate the message that this was a targeted incident.”

Sue Thompson, Chair of the Hertfordshire Volunteer Committee, added “At Crimestoppers, we know that a violent crime such as this can be difficult to discuss, and knowing that a fellow resident was shot must disturb Watford residents. Thankfully, incidents like this are very rare in our safe county of Hertfordshire. We obviously want to help police in any way we can, and support them in their efforts to protect the community. We may even be able to provide a cash reward if information leads to the arrest and charge of the person(s) responsible for the crime, so we urge anyone who may be able to provide information to let us know.”

Only information given to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 that leads to an arrest and charge is eligible for the reward. Information can be given online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org but information will not be eligible for a reward this way.
