Mr. Alderson, from Broadwater Crescent in Welwyn Garden City, was found dead by a cyclist at 6.50am on Wednesday August 27. He was discovered on the B1000, Welwyn Road, close to Sele Farm; directly opposite the pull in to the bridleway which goes to Selebroom Wood. It is thought that the collision happened between 5.30pm on Tuesday July 26 and overnight into the morning of Wednesday July 27.
The victim is described as being 5ft 3ins tall, with a slim build, glasses and grey hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing dark grey or black jogging bottoms, a light blue polo shirt, black trainers, a navy blue anorak with a green lining, and dark grey or black woollen gloves. He may also have been wearing a dark woollen hat.
Ann Scott, Eastern Regional Manager for Crimestoppers, said: “Despite appeals by Police for the driver to come forward the driver is yet to be traced. The family of David are distraught and just want to know what caused his tragic death. You have nothing to fear by coming forward to the independent charity Crimestoppers with any information you may have. We do not ask for your name and no call is traced or recorded. You won’t have to give a statement, speak to the Police or go to court – we only want to know what you know, not who you are. In the 22 years that Crimestoppers has been running we have never broken our anonymity promise.”
Peter Camilletti, Chair of the Hertfordshire Volunteer Committee, added “Did someone display unusual behaviour that day? Did someone appear unusually distressed that evening or into the early hours of that morning? Has someone’s car received damage to the front end which they cannot explain? Has someone confessed to being involved? Perhaps someone witnessed the event, saw suspicious activity in the area or saw a car pulled over at the side of the road? Crimestoppers wants to receive any information no matter how insignificant it may seem”.
