Operation Wizard
Hertfordshire received information in 2005
from a Crimestoppers log that instigated the start of Operation Wizard.
The log referred to fraudulent activity. It
was actually referring to something commonly known as a Boiler Room scam - in
other words the illegal marketing, promotion and sale of shares in a UK
incorporated company.
The company was effectively run from a
Watford address, but the marketing of the shares was conducted from an office
in Castel del Fels in Barcelona. To date 4 men have been charged with
Conspiracy to Defraud and Money Laundering and the trial will take place at
Southwark Crown Court. The next hearing is a Pre-committal Hearing on 14th
March 2008.
The case has resulted in 328 detections for
Hertfordshire Constabulary
